About

Dramatic changes are happening in the demographics of the US population. It is estimated that by 2030, 22% of the US population will be over 65 years of age. People are living longer and are pursuing a more active and independent life style than the population of the past generations. The aging population has brought into focus how we design new infrastructure and systems that meets the needs of the older population. From delivery of healthcare solutions, to design of homes, workplaces, transportation systems and communication devices, health technology and sciences will play a very important role in the future society.

University of Illinois has initiated several key activities and programs to address these societal challenges. Several leading centers and academic units across the campus are now involved in finding solutions to the problem of aging. The Healthy Aging community webpage will provide an overview of these on-going activities along with updates on future events and opportunities in this area.
